_______________________

The mornings were brighter now, which made his morning run all the more pleasant. He'd been waivering in his dedication to the task ever since he'd started dating George - well, she was a very good reason to stay in bed in the morning, most definitely - however, now they had broken up and he was living alone, he could easily fall back into the routine. However, sometimes, it didn't feel right, like he had fallen back into living someone else's life - he'd fallen into a routine - perhaps he had been becoming domesticated? The idea was frightening, but then he supposed he was growing up - and he was going to be a father. Him. That was even more terrifying.

Sweating from the effort of his run, glistening brightly, he finally ran up the stairs to the school, determined to make his way straight to a shower - however, someone had decided that now was a time to catch his attention...

Alexious was sitting at the top of the stairs, reading a book. She had gone outside to get some fresh air and had only meant to stay for a few minutes, but she had gotten distracted by her book. Now, the sound of someone coming up the stairs drew her attention back to reality. She looked at the man, wondering if he would just keep going or if he would stop to talk. She wanted to make sure that he wasn't stopping before going back to her book.

Running the back of his hand over his head, feeling it click with sweat, he started to slow down, see Alexious on the stairs. "Good morning." He smiled at her, catching his breath and putting his hands on his hips, standing up straight and breathing deeply to make sure he got as much oxygen as possible into his lungs.

Alexious nodded. "Good morning." She looked him over. "Having fun?"

"Well, I wouldn't perhaps say fun...but it was nice to finally bring myself to do it again, so I suppose feeling accomplished is a term I would use." He admitted, chuckling softly. "And you? What are enjoying reading?" He asked curiously, tilting his head to try and read the title.

Alexious laughed and lifted the book so he could see the title. "Emma. Probably my favorite Jane Austen book."

"I've never read it." He admitted. "Although I've heard it's a fantastic read - admittedly, the perspectives given to me have been female, but I've been assured this hasn't influenced them in any way." His smile grew wider as he outstretched an arm and leant against a wall, his large breaths becoming slowly shorter and more normal.

Alexious laughed. "I disagree. I think that their feminimity had a great influence on their opinion. It's a chick book." She said plainly.

"Why so?" Jack asked curiously. "I've never heard too much plotwise - does it involve some tragic female hero?" He asked curiously.

Alexious laughed. "I wouldn't call Emma tragic. She has everything she could ever want and way too much time on her hands. That's where the main problem comes in - she tries to make two people fall in love, in a sense. No, it's a chick book simply because it's a typical Jane Austen - everyone gets married in the end."

"Oh - well, if it provides no explanation about the female mind I may skip it then - women can be very confusing creatures, I've found - any explanation, even if in a 'chick book' seems to be something I may have to embrace to get even the faintest ideas of what goes on in your minds." He chuckled.

Alexious smiled. "Maybe we're not complicated. Maybe it's you men who are too simple," she joked, flipping her hair over her shoulder.

Jack just smiled widely. "Perhaps - but then I've heard many complaints that men are just as complicated as women - so nothing would surprise me."

Alexous smiled. "My favorite description of guys' and girls' brains is food related. Guys' brains are like waffles - everything has a compartment and is separated from everything else. Girls' brains are like spaghetti - all over the place and one thought leads to another. So maybe you just thing that we're complicated because you're more organized and can't see how our brains can be so unorganized," she suggested.

"I don't think I've ever been called quite so organised before - but then sweeping generalisations do seem to work wonders when describing the different sexes." He said thoughtfully. "But then it depends what the thought is, some women I know have very organised minds..."

Alexious thought about this. "Well, true, but - as you said - in general women are more likely to jump subjects. I know that, for me at least, once I get talking I can go in a comlete circle and cover ten different topics and still end on the first one," she commented.

"Yes, that particular thing confuses me to no end, I'm afraid - sometimes the leaps in logic are random at best and it can be very exhausting keeping up." He sighed. "Thankfully, I think I've learnt to keep track - or, should all else fail, nod and agree with everything that is said. It's fail safe, I've found."
